A great community
Pictured above: The recent East Coast fire which caused such damage and misery
IN Tuesday's paper we will be publishing this heartwarming letter from a reader which really captures what our communty is about.
"A BIG thank you to all who responded to assist in Monica’s plight and to the Daily Dispatch who on their own accord printed the letter (Can you help Monica? DD, August 7) about Monica’s loss. This resulted in an avalanche of calls offering assistance. Caren and I are still busy collecting from generous doners.
A special thanks must go to King Pie for the do nation of R1000. Eric you are a star. The tears of joy from Monica were a joy to behold.
From Monica to all of you "Thank-you, I can start again to build my life". – Peter & Caren Brown, East London"
The original letter they were referring to was this one and followed a terrible fire on the East Coast resorts.
This is why it is great to be a newspaper in a community like this. I can't tell you how many times our readers amaze me with their generosity and compassion. Thanks to all of you!

Greetings from the USA! I’m not sure if this is the right place to put this or not. I have been coming to E. London once a year since 2004. I work with one of the local churches in E. London doing mission work, hopefully helping to make a positive impact in the lives of the people in E. London, particularly in Buffalo Flats. E. London is my “home away from home.” If people here in the USA ask me where I like to go if away from here, the answer is easy. Always E. London! I read the Dispatch online daily to keep up with what’s happening in E. London and SA. Helps keep me connected during the time I’m not there. Thanks, Dispatch! I appreciate all the great articles on so many subjects. I loved the article you did yesterday about Haven Wellness Centre. I had the privilege of visiting Haven on my trip over in 2006. What a great work they are doing to help the people who are suffering and to reach out to the community! I’ll be back in E. London in October and can’t wait! Bless you all!

Mary Sue Rae, thanks for the kind comments. It’s great to know that our little town holds a place in your heart and that you find our reports valuable and I hope you feel as welcome when you return in October.
Give us some details of the work you are involved in in Buffalo Flats. Who knows, maybe there’s a story in it for us!

Good day!I don’t have much to say(for now!),but would like to commend the sterling work that the Dispatch is doing.I’m a student in the Free State, and I log onto the Disaptch website almost daily to keep in touch with what’s happening in what i refer to as the Mother Provice-because I was born and bred in the Eastern Cape. The Dispatch introduced me to the world of news papers @the tender age of 10 years, and that is how I got hooked into the media industry. Keep up the good work!

Luyolo, thanks for the post. Nice to hear from you. We’ve been really interested in some of the debates going on at Free State varisty around segregated residences and so on. Are you a student there and, if so, what have your experiences been?
