Covering Mickey Arthur presser using CoveritLive

Dispatch Online news editor Jan Hennop pulled off a worthwhile exercise this morning when he used live blogging tool Coveritlive to relay realtime news of the press conference being addressed by former Proteas cricket coach Mickey Arthur in East London.
SA was shocked yesterday when news broke that he had quit/been sacked. Luckily for us at the Daily Dispatch, Arthur (who lives in East London) and Cricket SA chose East London for the first press conference on this affair.
This was a perfect opportunity to try some real breaking news as live as we can get it on our website.
The Coveritlive technology is really simple, effective technology. With a piece of embed code and an account with Coveritlive we quickly created a post on DispatchNow, our breaking news blog and used that to present the coverage (come check it out). Jan was able to cover this in close to real time, reflecting the statements and questions and answers of the participants.
Some readers - and some of us back at office - were able to zap a couple of questions over to Jan as well to see if we could get some extra news out of Arthur and CSA boss Gerald Majola.
I was pleased with this experiment. I think we should do more of it. We're thinking of giving it a go for coverage of the cricket final between the Warriors and the Dolphins here in East London on Friday night.
I thought it would be great to try and do a live Q&A session between readers and myself as Dispatch editor at some point too. What do you think?
